They were built for family outings and weekend getaways during the warm months and were intended to be stored away when the weather got too chilly for outdoor picnics. Fulltimers are faced with living in their traveling home, whether it is well designed for cold weather or not. Luckily, there are lots of things that you can do to make your RV more comfortable during the colder months. Let’s start by keeping that cold weather outside and the warm air in. To do this, you need to increase insulation and reduce cold air infiltration. Your windows are a great place to start. Most RV windows are single-pane and many do not seal well.

Why does it have to be so difficult to achieve the life so many of us would love to live? There are no simple answers to our reasons, but we need to face them head on. Here are the solutions to these: Land is expensive, in growing short supply and people want a balance of having land and being close to city or town centers where they can access services, entertainment and employment. These things are often in conflict with each other.
The closer to the city center, the smaller and more expensive the lots. It is this dynamic that means for us to get access to loans, we need to get creative. Some borrow from a family member, some save up years to pay with cash, others use credit cards and carry a balance. This code does serve a good purpose; it prevents abuse on the part of slum lords and gives a mechanism for the courts to hold slum lords accountable.
Social Pressures In our society today, bigger is better, more is better, we are conditioned to want more and more stuff. These cultural norms are a very strong current in maintaining the status quo. Tiny Houses fly in the face of such things, questioning much of what people hold dear. People can react in a very visceral way when we suggest there is a problem with the way things are.
People can get very defensive and social pressures can make the shift to living a simple life in a Tiny House very difficult with some people.

I should be upbeat and taking arrows doesn’t sound like an upbeat thing to say. So, let me amend that statement. It was courage and vision that led the pioneers to leave behind a comfortable, settled life and trek West to begin a new life in a new place. Many of those from the East that went West found a strength within themselves that they didn’t see while they were in their old life. Instead of being one of those that just kind of went along with the others in the old life, they became leaders and visionaries in their new lives.
The sentiments of that last paragraph come from a favorite author, Louis L’Amour, in many of his books. So, I can’t really say that it is an original thought from me. However, what he said is truthful. Welcome to being a pioneer. Look ahead and ignore the “barking dogs” that give you negative opinions and comments. Louis L’Amour also spoke of the barking dogs.
January 22, Campskunk , How Tos 11 Comments First off, I don’t even HAVE a house, so this is for those of you who still have sticks and brick attachments, or are visiting folks who do. Houses have connections that come in handy for us RVers staying at a residence, and I’m not talking about the electricity and water. I’m talking about sewer connections you can dump your waste water tanks into. City sewer connections have what’s called a clean-out, which is a large opening into the sewer line just as it leaves the house and heads toward the city sewer connection.
A few days ago I received an email from a follower of Love Your RV! named Larry. He wrote to pass along some information on RV sink plumbing that may be of interest, especially to those of you battling foul odors emanating from under the kitchen sink.
Welcome to the fun with liquids page! The information here is mostly based on my own personal experience. Working with plumbing is pretty straightforward and usually isn’t terribly dangerous, unless you gouge yourself with a screwdriver or drop a wrench on your foot. However, improperly installed or poorly repaired plumbing can lead to your RV filling with water or other far more disgusting substances!
Some of the suggested RV modifications require you to be at least a little handy Don’t undertake any project beyond your capabilities. Introduction One of the best things about an RV is it’s ability to provide all the comforts of home even when you are miles away from civilization. Key to our comfort are simple things like running water and indoor toilet facilities. Lucky for us, our modern RVs are equipped with complete miniaturized equivalents of the household plumbing that we all take for granted.
Even small RVs have partial or complete self-containment capabilities and the basic design of the plumbing systems are pretty much the same, from a pop up camper all the way up to a big class A motorhome. Let’s take a look at a simple block diagram: A couple of notes:

Here are some items that I wish all RVers would have and use. All of the fittings pictured on this page are usually available through any RV dealer, Camping World , and other places as listed on the ” Related Links ” page. Also, Wal-Mart usually stocks a limited supply of the most commonly used items. The first item is the “sewage donut” which is nothing more than a very flexible foam rubber ring which effectively seals your sewage hose to the sewer connection in the ground.
Clean Dump is designed to take the chore and health hazard out of dumping your tanks! With Clean Dump worries over your RV holding tanks and pumps are gone! Tripping over RV septic lines is no longer a problem. There are no more hose ladders, ramps, or waiting for large flex hose to drain clean.
Some require minimal work with minimal materials. Other sewer main installs require lots of excavation and red tape to ensure everything is up to code. While you may not be able to control everything, knowing all cost factors and understanding how each affects the bottom line will surely help you keep your final sewer line replacement price down. Location Like any plumbing project , bigger projects demand bigger pocketbooks. For a sewer main, the distance between your home and the connector line will largely determine how big this project will be.
Longer sewer lines require more materials and more time for installation. Therefore, the longer the sewer line that is needed, the more the project will cost. House Type Most of us prefer a stand-alone house to a condo or townhouse, but sewer line installations present a unique benefit to those in the latter. Permits Municipal permits are usually required for a sewer main installation.
Contractors or plumbers typically take care of the necessary paperwork, but as the homeowner, it’s ultimately your responsibility to ensure everything is handled properly. The cost of a permit depends on the nature of the work and the cost of the project, and it often varies between jurisdictions. Anything in the way has to be removed before a new sewer line can be installed. Depending on the work, you may have to call a mason or landscaper to complete all the work. This of course raises your new sewer line cost.

I currently plug the city water intake as a temporary fix. Water pump that still worked was replaced with new one, still have water pumping back out the city water intake. I changed the impeller on the pump the system is tight as the pump builds up pressure and shuts off. I run the water and there is water pressure for a few seconds an then little to no pressure.
The ShurFlo water pump has a manual switch for operation and up until a few weeks ago after I replaced a leaking connector it worked just fine. Now when I turn it on, it just pumps water back out the exterior fresh water connection where we connect our hose. Any ideas as to the cause? Also, is it common for the pump not to come on when connected to a shore water supply?
The fresh water inlet is connected to a T with one side going to the galley faucet and the other side going to another T with one side of it connecting to the output of the pump and the other side going to the bathroom.

RV Toilets, Holding Tanks, Sewer Hoses, Macerators, Chemicals, sanitation parts from brands like Thetford, Sea Land, Dometic, Flo Jet, and Camco.
Posted by RV Doctor By Gary Bunzer Gather any two or three RV owners together and engage them in a discussion of RV plumbing systems and invariably, the discourse will eventually turn to one of the most displeasing, yet necessary aspects of RVing; that of waste containment, evacuation and sanitation. The proverbial dumping of the holding tanks, often considered a necessary evil and a relatively simple process, can, in some cases, cause more consternation and operational problems , than one might fully understand.
As disagreeable a chore as it may be, given the technology available today, plus heightened environmental awareness, there is a renewed vigor to properly store, evacuate and maintain the waste plumbing systems on all RVs! Always take extra precaution when working on RV waste plumbing systems; even when simply evacuating the holding tanks. Always wear disposable gloves when handling sewer hoses and connections. Many coach owners have installed a glove and disinfectant dispenser right in the waste plumbing bay as a reminder.
When using hand tools while working on the waste systems, be sure to clean and disinfect them after each use. Those same tools may be working on the fresh water system next! A can of spray disinfectant is also a handy item to carry with you as you travel. Black and Gray A common mindset is to separate, at least ideologically , RV waste plumbing into two separate waste systems; the gray system liquid waste and the black system solid waste.
